Clifton Down Shopping Centre are taking many steps to promote their active travel policy for both shoppers and those who work in the centre. It is well known that Bristol has some of the lowest travel speeds during peak hours and 80% of the morning traffic in the city relates to commuting. By offering more active travel solutions for people to reach areas like Clifton Down, will not only help reduce these figures, but is also proven to reduce sickness and absenteeism as well as increase staff morale*. As a part of this initiative, Clifton Down Shopping Centre have teamed up with YoBike to offer bike bays and cycle rental on-site.

YoBike offer bike rental made easy with their 'get around for just £1' motto. It's as simple as downloading their app, unlocking a bike and locking it up again once done. Bikes are located using the YoBike app and GPS locator target. It's £1 for an hour with other packages available.

As a launch incentive, YoBike are offering a 99% discount to anyone parking at Clifton Down meaning that you can travel for an hour for just 1p! The discount will be automatically applied by the app when the bike is dropped off at the location.

Clifton Down Shopping Centre is ideally located to host the bikes and bays, being adjacent to Clifton Down Railway Station, close to Bristol University and BBC Bristol, plus having a great site on the bustling and popular Whiteladies Road.

As well as supporting their environmental policies, the partnership with YoBike is timely for Clifton Down Shopping Centre as Charlotte Jarrett, the Centre Manager, is currently preparing for her own cycling challenge – the London to Paris bike ride – which she will undertake in September in aid of local charity, Jessie May.

On sealing the deal with YoBike, Charlotte commented:

'This is fantastic news for both parties and for those who live and work in the local area. We are all trying to reduce our environmental footprint, plus many of us are endeavouring to improve our fitness and health. The YoBike scheme ticks all the boxes whilst being easy and cost-effective to use. We look forward to a long and beneficial partnership'.

David Mckiniven of YoBike said:

‘YoBike is happy to have been adopted into the daily life of Bristolians. We are glad to see our most popular drop off point now accepting a more prominent parking location for Clifton commuters, shoppers and workers alike’.
